FORT SCOTT -- Fort Scott High School's track and field teams won a combined total of 23 medals in the annual Fort Scott Relays at Frary Field Friday night.

Paola won both team titles. The boys beat out Joplin by just two points, 99-97. Fort Scott took third place with 77 points while Labette County finished fourth with 60 points.

Paola's girls scored 181 points, winning eight events, taking two medals in five events and three medals in three others. They won all three relays and only event in which the Panther girls didn't medal was the pole vault -- they didn't enter anyone. Pittsburg finished second in girls' standings with 112 points followed by Joplin with 76 and Fort Scott in fourth with 46.

Fort Scott sophomore Katren Rienbolt begins to put some distance between herself and the rest of the pack on the second lap of the 1,600-meter run Friday evening. Rienbolt won the race by more than 6 1/2 seconds over Parsons' Kaylee Krull (third in line behind Rienbolt). (Scott Nuzum/Herald-Tribune)
