(March 24) -- March 24th is late in the year for a snowstorm, but the heaviest of the year fell over the central west ranging in depth from 25 inches at Kansas City and other points to the north and east. Eight inches fell in Fort Scott, escaping the worst. Traffic on the Frisco was almost at a standstill on Saturday night and yesterday morning. All trains were several hours late. The snow was so heavy along the entire division that the section men could not clear the switches as fast as it fell and the only available passing tracks where meeting points for trains could be arranged were at Paola and Olathe.

The old slogan: "It pays to advertise" proved true last evening when Mrs. R.B. Querry, 623 S. National Ave., ran in The Tribune's classified column the following: "For sale: Nine large goose eggs. Call Querry's Grocery, Phone 246." This morning before 8 o'clock Mrs. Querry asked that the ad be taken out as she had already sold 50 more goose eggs than she has on hand.

"Do the people of Fort Scott want the storm watch? That is the first question we should ask. Then we can go from there," said Allan Lotterer concerning the lack of interest in the nearly forsaken storm watch group.

Lotterer's comments came after city and county officials indicated they plan to try and reorganize the storm watch program here. Lotterer went on to say that when the storm watch group was organized in the city there were 28 volunteers.

The group now consists of Lotterer, Harold Northrop and Charles Briggs.

Although there is only one senior on the 26-player roster, Fort Scott High School golf coach Ken Smith thinks the Tigers should be stronger this season after finishing ninth in last year's Southeast Kansas League tournament. Andy Emerson is the lone senior on the squad and he was probably the Tigers' most consistent player last spring. In fact, he missed a trip to the state Class 5A tournament by just one stroke in regional competition.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The three-point field goal, which became standard in college basketball programs last season, will be implemented at high schools across the nation this fall.
