ROBERT MICHAEL O'BRYAN
Robert Michael O'Bryan, 67, a resident of rural Uniontown, Kan., died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott following a cancer illness. He was born June 27, 1944, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Joseph G. O'Bryan and Rosemary Rendina O'Bryan.
Mike graduated from the St. Patrick's High School in Walnut, Kan. He married Susan Lydick on Oct. 6, 1967, at Walnut.
In addition to operating his own farm, he had served as the transportation supervisor for the Uniontown U-235 School District and was currently employed by Greenbush Southeast Kansas Educational Service Center as an environmental compliance coordinator.
He was a member of Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church and a past member of the Fort Scott Rotary Club. He enjoyed fishing and was a past member of the Sow Seekers Bass Fishing Club.
Survivors include his wife, Susan, of the home; two sons, Thomas Joseph O'Bryan and wife Debra, Lee's Summit, Mo., Timothy Michael O'Bryan and wife Dianne, Stillwell, Kan.; a daughter, Ann Elizabeth O'Bryan and Todd May, Topeka, Kan.; and five grandchildren, Lauren, Jacob, Jenna, Benjamin and Kate O'Bryan.
Also surviving are four brothers, W.W. O'Bryan, Hepler, Kan., Patrick O'Bryan, Pittsburg, Kan., Daniel O'Bryan, Wichita, Kan., and Joseph O'Bryan, Fort Scott; four sisters, Sabina Schoenhofer, Jackson, Miss., Mary Jo VanWellagham, Stillwell, Kan., Margaret Meetz, Wichita, Kan., and Katie McCroskey, Springfield, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Robert O'Bryan.
Following cremation, Father Darrin May will conduct Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at the Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Uniontown Cemetery.
The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel with a brief time of visitation following. The family will later receive friends beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the Fort Scott Elks Lodge, 111 W. 19th Street.
Memorials are suggested to either Hospice Compassus or the Center of Learning Tree Institute, which provides scholarships for needy children, and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
