Evangelist Mason performs to celebrate his birthday

Delton Watt Jr. hosted a men's conference for the Faith Family Church at his farm home in Fayette, Mo. Barbecued meat with trimmings was served. The 40 men attending enjoyed activities such as a golf chipping contest, washer pitching and fishing. Delton and his brother, Bill Watt from Napoleon, Mo., visited their mother, Mae Watt, for three days this past week.

Evangelist Lowell Mason, of Joplin Revival Fires, celebrated his 74th birthday Sunday night, Aug. 14, by giving his annual concert on this special day. Mason, who has been called the world's smallest gospel singer because of his unique height of only 46 inches, held the concert in the Christian Church of Carl Junction. Mo. The overflow crowd enjoyed the program given by Lowell and his son, Duke Mason.

Seth Morton, grandson of Jack and Mary Lee Payne, recently visited in Arcadia for a few days. He was guest with Jack at Kiwanis in Pittsburg. After lunch, they played golf at Four Oaks in Pittsburg That evening, the three of them enjoyed dinner at Chicken Mary's. The following day, they were joined by daughter Amy Carpenter and sons, Lane and Drew, and friend Keaton Wasson. That evening they enjoyed a steak fry in the Payne home in Arcadia. The next day, the three boys were guests of Jack's for another round of golf. Seth is a junior at Missiouri Western, St. Joseph, Mo. He left on Saturday to finish preparing for college. That evening the Carpenters along with Keaton, joined Jack and Mary Lee at Chicken Mary's and were invited to Jeff and Sherry Sisney's home, rural Arcadia, for cake and ice cream.

The morning worship service in Arcadia Christian Church on Aug. 14 was opened with a solo by Pastor, Charles Cable. In the absence of song leader Stuart Semple, Willa Cable assisted Clay Carrington and Carol Bridgewater in leading the singing. David Bridgewater led the devotions for communion and offering time.

School supplies given by church members were given to Arcadia students following dismissal at noon. That afternoon the pastor shared some of his garden produce with members of the church. Sunday night the closing program of Vacation Bible School was held in the Baptist Church in Oskaloosa.

Kirby Hughes Gould, daughter of Port and Claude Hughes, spent a recent week on a mission trip to Costa Rica. Her Uncle Jack and Harriett Corporon returned to Brooklyn about the same time after spending a month vacationing on Fire Island, N.Y.

Cousins Larry and Vickie Shead returned from Guatemala after visiting Michael, Chrisi and baby Hudson. These Corporon kids had missionary relatives from Iowa who once served in China back in the 1930s.

Leah Bridgewater, former Arcadian now from Girard, spent a weekend with grandparents David and Carol Bridgewater and attended JOY class on Sunday.

On Aug. 8, Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens met for a fine carry-in dinner in Arcadia Community Center. Sixteen people were present. Following the business meeting conducted by President Lilly Coonrod, she announced that the next meeting will be on Sept. 12 and will be back in their own cottage after many improvements have been made. Bingo was played and a bit of rain was enjoyed during the afternon. Others present were Carol and David Bridgewater, Shirley Garrett, Jim Turner, Ava Mae Adams, Mary V. Shead, Helen Sisney, Carole Garrison, Jerry Coonrod, Jack and Mary Lee Payne, Gary Peterson, Brian Guest and the three willing workers from Arma Care Center who took blood pressure readings and enjoyed dinner before returning to their work. They are Administrator Beth Popejoy, Director of Nursing Jodee Valley and Janice Mayfield. They deserve many thanks.

"Community Matters," a newsletter from Presbyterian Village in Fort Scott, tells us one of the monthly activities will be on Aug. 25 when residents will take a trip to enjoy food at a new restaurant in Mapleton, Kan.
