Eldon Leon Davis, age 77, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at his home.

He was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Fort Scott, the son of Edward Davis and Ethel Maberry Davis.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He married Mary Helen Weems on April 18, 1958. She preceded him in death on Sept. 26, 2008.

He worked most of his life as a welder for the Capital Iron Works Company.

Eldon belonged to the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers.

While in California, he enjoyed camping and fishing and was a member of the Golden Banners motorcycle club.

One of his greatest passions was for the game of golf.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Davis and wife Pam, Minden Mines, Mo.; and Mark Davis and wife Rachel, Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Joanie Lynn Shortridge, Ennis, Mont.; two brothers, Jim Frye and wife Pat, Lenexa, Kan.; and Larry Frye and wife Sharon, Kearney, Mo.; two half brothers, Ron Davis and Roy Lee Davis; and a half sister Mary Ann.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife.

There was cremation.

There will be a committal service for Eldon Davis in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott at a future date. Service date and time will be announced by the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan.
