CHARLOTTE M. BEARD

Charlotte M. Beard, age 82, a former resident of Fort Scott and Pittsburg, Kan., died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at the Eastwood Manor in Commerce, Okla.

She was born Dec. 23, 1927, at Mt. Vernon, Mo., the daughter of Charles S. Steinman and Bertha M. Martin Steinman.

Charlotte grew up in Erie, Kan., and graduated from Erie High School.

She married Albert O. Beard on May 16, 1947, at Erie, Kan. He was the love of her life for 50 years until his passing on Jan. 23, 1998.

In addition to being a homemaker, Charlotte had worked for the Western Insurance Company in Fort Scott, Kan. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Scott.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha Beard, Lakeland, Fla.; and her son, Charles Beard and wife, Tana, Miami, Okla.

Also surviving are three grandchildren, Matthew Beard, Lakeland, Fla.; Christopher Beard and wife, Heather, Allen, Texas; and Lauren Palmer and husband, Joe, Newalla, Okla.

Rev. Paul Babcock will conduct funeral services at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research or the First United Methodist Church of Fort Scott and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
