Jayhawk Conference unbeatens retain top three spots

Thursday, October 14, 2010

The top three teams in the National Junior College Athletic Association/jcfootball.com poll remained the same after last week's play. Jayhawk Conference members Butler, Hutchinson and Coffeyville remained at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, in that order, and undefeated on the season.

Butler (7-0) cruised past Independence, 58-29, last Saturday while Hutchinson (6-0) pounded Dodge City, 63-0, and Coffeyville (6-0) rolled over Highland, 64-12.

The three Jayhawk powerhouses will finally meet each other beginning Saturday when No. 3 Coffeyville welcomes No. 1 Butler into Veterans Memorial Stadium while Hutchinson hosts Garden City.

Hutchinson travels to Butler on Oct. 23 and then Coffeyville will go to Hutchinson on the final weekend of the regular season Oct. 30.

According to the NJCAA, this is the first time that three teams from the same conference have been ranked 1-2-3 for consecutive weeks.

Iowa Western (7-0) remained at No. 4. The Reivers, in just the program's second season, crushed Dakota-Bottineau in a non-conference contest, 63-6. Southwest Junior College Football Conference leader Navarro stays at No. 5 after stomping Arkansas Baptist, 70-13, in another non-conference affair.

Northwest Mississippi (6-0) is at No. 6 followed by Grand Rapids, Mich. (6-1) at No. 7. Arizona Western (4-1) and Copiah-Lincoln (6-0) are tied for eighth. Ellsworth, Iowa (6-1), returns to the top 10 in the 10th position.

Other unbeaten teams are No. 12 Central Lakes and No. 16 Nassau. Cisco suffered its first loss last Saturday and fell from 18th to out of the poll.
