LOIS M. SWINK BRUNER
Former resident of the Uniontown and Bronson area, Lois M. Swink Bruner, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, in Independence, Mo.
Lois was born Feb. 21, 1918, on a homestead near Morristown, S.D., to Oscar and Viola Swink. She was a twin and the fourth or fifth of 14 children in the Swink family.
In 1934 the Swinks moved to Bourbon Co., Kan., where she attended and graduated from Bronson High School in 1936.
After studying an additional year of "normal school," she obtained her teaching certificate and took a teaching position at Green Valley School south of Uniontown.
In 1938, at Altamont, Kan., she married a Uniontown farmer, Clarence O. Bruner, and became the instant mom to Clarence's children: Charles, Eldon, James and Norma Bruner. In the 1940's, they were blessed with four additional children: Rodger, Ellen, Sharon and Kenneth.
In the late 1950's, Lois returned to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her last service as an LPN was at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, Kan. and the Uniontown Nursing Home.
When her husband, Clarence, passed away in 1991, she moved to Jackson County, Mo., and spent several years providing attendant nursing care to elderly in the area.
She was preceeded in death by her husband Clarence, sons Eldon and James, six brothers, four infant siblings, grandson David Bruner in 2010 and great-grandson Sgt. Tyler Juden in 2009.
She is survived by five siblings: sisters Maye Wolverton, Wisc., Phyllis Hoofman, Calif., Ardell Bisher of Uniontown, Kan., and brothers Floyd (Chuck), Calif., and Arthur, Idaho.Surviving children are Charles (Mary) Bruner, Uniontown; Clara Mae Ludlum Bruner, Topeka, Kan.; Norma (Ray) Williams, Levasy, Mo..; Rodger (Martha), Independence, Mo.; Ellen (Tom) Taylor, Wellston, Okla.; Sharon (Terry) Marsh, Lawton, Okla.; and Kenneth (Ann) Bruner of Emporia, Kan.
Additionally 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren survive.
The family welcomes friends to Wednesday, July 21, 7 p.m. visitation at the Kolkmeyer Funeral Home at 400 Walnut in Wellington, Mo.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 22, 10:30 a.m., at the Church of Christ (Temple Lot), 200 So. River Blvd. in Independence, Mo.
She will be laid to rest in the Buckner, Mo., cemetery.
