Wanda Lou Palmer, 81, of Emporia, Kan., died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at her home.

She was born July 15, 1928 in Fort Scott, Kan., to WIlliam R. and Nellie Irene (Knotts) Watkins.

She married Lawrence Palmer, Oct. 3, 1945 in Cherryvale, Kan. They were married 64 years.

She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and she taught Sunday School and Bible School in her church. SHe was a lifetime member of Girl Scouts and received her Volunteer Power Award in 1993.

She loved to travel, camping, square dancing and crocheting.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William Wayne Watkins.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence, of Emporia, Kan.; her sons: Larry Lee Palmer and wife Jane, of Emporia, Kan.; Kenneth Edward Palmer and wife Lorraine, of Arlington, Texas; Curtis Lynn Palmer and wife Jole, of Lebo, Kan., and Clayton Dale Palmer and wife Kelly of Mobile, Ala.

She is also survived by a sister, Betty Jo Johnson of Kearney, Mo.; a brother, James Everett Watkins of West Monroe, La., 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at Charter Funerals with Reverend Earl DeWiler of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be at the Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.

Memorial contributions to Hospice Care of Kansas or the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
