Violet Naomi Gaston, age 83, resident of Fort Scott, died Monday morning, April 13, 2009, at the Fort Scott Manor. She was born January 18, 1926, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the daughter of William Sherman Bolden and Eva Elizabeth Hampton Bolden. She married William Fountain. He preceded her in death in 1979. Violet had worked as a med aide and physical therapist at Fort Scott Manor for nearly twenty years. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Her hobbies included sewing and embroidery, as well as reading her Bible.

Survivors include four sons, Leland "John" Bolden, and William "Bill" Fountain, both of Fort Scott, Kansas, Richard Fountain, Joplin, Missouri, and Randy Fountain, Manhattan, Kansas; three daughters, Naomi Hull, Myrtle Hull, and Patty Hathaway, all of Fort Scott. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters; and a son-in-law, Archie Lewis, Salina, Kansas. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Lewis; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Fountain, a grandson, Jeff Fountain; five brothers, Lee Ryan, Charles Bolden, Donald Bolden, Art Bolden and Loren Bolden; and five sisters, Rosalie Bolden, Goldie Bolden, Hazel McReynolds, Dorothy Feagins and Betty Durossette.

Rev. Daryl Gaddy and Rev. Steve Bell will conduct funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Bourbon County Relay for Life and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, Kan., 66701.
