William David "Bill" Saker, age 93, a resident of Fort Scott, died early Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at the Fort Scott Manor Nursing Home.

He was born July 3, 1915, in Bartlett, Kan., the son of Walter Samuel and Ola Blanche Robinson Saker.

Bill married Mary Louise Hall on Aug. 16, 1941, in Nevada, Mo. She preceded him in death in May of 2001.

He was a retired brakeman from the Frisco Railroad, and also raised cattle for many years. He was a member of the United Trainmen Union, Fort Scott Masonic Lodge, Hiattville Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, Mirza Shrine Mounted Patrol and Mobile Nobles, Mirza Hospital Dads, and served as Rainbow Dad.

Bill was also an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, carpenter and a life long FSHS Tiger fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Howard and husband Bob, Tulsa, Okla., and Monta Jo Saker, Fort Scott.

Also surviving are two grandchildren, Tracy Dahl, Valley Center, Kan., and Brian Howard, Orlando, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Chad Dahl and Sydney Dahl, Valley Center, Kan.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Oscar, Bob and Donald; and three sisters, Maxine, Mildred and Dolly.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time.

Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels or Mirza Transportation Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan. 66701.
