Clara Luella Huffman

Clara Luella Huffman, age 87, long time resident of north Kansas City, Mo., died Monday evening, July 21, 2008, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital, in Butler, Mo. She was in the process of moving to be near family. Clara was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Xenia, Kan., the daughter of Charles Edward Spurgeon and Blanche Shorter Spurgeon. Following the death of her parents, she was raised by her grandparents, Byrum and Mary Etta Spurgeon. She loved to play bingo at the V.F.W.

Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Jurgens and husband, Noel, Mound City, Kan., and Toni Eflin and husband Merris, Linn Valley, Kan. Also surviving is a sister, Esther Spurgeon, Houston, Texas; sister-in-law Evaline Eisler, Smithville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chet Huffman; one son, Jim Harclerode; three brothers, two infant and Winfred Spurgeon and an infant sister.

Pastor Dallas Peterson will conduct graveside services at 10 a.m., Friday in the Bronson Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel, Fort Scott. The family will receive friends Friday from 9 a.m., until leaving for the cemetery at the Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel, Bronson, Kan.
