Mary Ellen Shotton, age 86, a resident of 1255 S. Crawford, Fort Scott, Kan., died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Mercy Health Center.

She was born January 23, 1922, in Coates, Kan., the daughter of Warren Iden Nash and Ellen Iris LaFayette Nash.

Mary served as a nurse with the United States Navy during WWII from May 1943 to March 1945.

She married Edward R. Shotton on May 1, 1948, in St. John, Kan. He preceded her in death on December 13, 1997. She was a member of the Community Christian Church.

Survivors include four sons, Louis Shotton and wife Sharon, Osawatomie, Kan., Charles Shotton and wife Penny, Chula Vista, Calif., Clifford Shotton and wife Shelley, Janesville, Wisc., and Richard Shotton and wife Vicki, Stotesbury, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Garrett and friend Jerry Scott, Wasilla, Alaska, and Ada Hunt, Fort Scott.

Also surviving is a brother, Daniel Nash, Garden City, Kan.; one sister Doris Koenig, Chestnut Ridge, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Shotton; grandson, Daniel Edward Shotton; and four brothers, Francis Nash, Allen Nash, Truman Nash and Iden Nash.

There was cremation. Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m., Friday, July 25, in the U. S. National Cemetery under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel. Military honors will be conducted by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F. W.
