Wanda Gale Staton, 74, of Pleasanton, Kan., died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Prescott Countryview Nursing Home, Prescott, Kan. She was born March 4, 1934 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the sixth of eight children born to Foster and Jemmie Easley Weems. She lived in Eureka Springs until the age of 2, when her family moved to Pleasanton, Kan.

On March 25, 1950 she married Buddie H. Staton in Pleasanton, Kan. where they raised their family. For more than 58 years she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Organization, the local bowling league, and a volunteer for the PTA. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, of which she became a later member of the Parker Chapter and a member of many other organizations throughout her life.

She worked for the Craw-Kan Telephone Company(formerly the Pleasanton Telephone Co.) as a telephone operator for 15 years. During this time she also began caring for other children in her home, an opportunity for her to lovingly touch the lives of well over 100 children.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.

Survivors include her husband, Buddie H. Staton of the home; five sons, Douglas H. Staton and wife, Debora; Jeffery A. Staton and wife, Terri, all of Pleasanton, Kan.; Bradford J. Staton and wife, Lenita of Benedict, Kan.; Clayton L. Staton and wife, Fran of Salina, Kan.; Gregory D. Staton and wife, Kristi of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and one daughter, Janette L. Miller and husband, Gary of Harrisonville, Mo.; eight grandsons, eight granddaughters, four great grandsons and four great granddaughters, many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Wilson of Pleasanton, Kan. and many extended family members.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kan. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Pleasanton Cemetery, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. Interment will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery.
