SHIRLEY ANN HILL

Thursday, February 28, 2008

Shirley Ann Hill (McComb) passed away on February 13, 2008, after a short illness at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Shirley Ann was born on June 15, 1934, in Fort Scott Kan., and lived in Blue Springs, Mo. She was a 1952 Fort Scott High School graduate.

Her interests and talents are numerous, and she was an accomplished musician playing piano, clarinet, and a classically trained vocalist. A lifelong passion for music meant you would always hear classical, opera, jazz, and Bob Dylan in Shirley's kitchen.

Shirley was also a great communicator, a telephone operator, writing many letters, and writing professionally for both the Fort Scott Tribune and Blue Springs Examiner. In her spare time she volunteered for many community organizations over the years such as Head Start and Great Books, and coordinated funeral dinners and simple suppers for St. John LaLande Church in Blue Springs, Mo. She and her family and friends hosted the Los Posadas Christmas celebration for 30 years at St. John LaLande.

James B. Hill and Shirley Ann McComb married on July 26, 1951, and had six children. She is survived by Jim, her loving husband of 57 years, her sister Carole "Cookie" McComb Butler, and her children Bonny Hill Martin, Jim Jr., Tim, Jennifer and Larry Hill. Shirley also dearly loved her eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Our earth angel Sally Ann preceded her in death in 1965.

Services will be held at 10 a.m on March 1, 2008, at the family parish St. John LaLande in Blue Springs, Mo. To honor Shirley Ann we ask that those interested make donations to the National Federation of the Blind and the United Farm Workers.
