GARY DUANE TEBBETS

Gary Duane Tebbets, age 59, resident of 1701 E. First Street, Fort Scott, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 15, 2008, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas following a brief illness. He was born April 2, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Dean and Bernice Belks Tebbets.

Gary graduated from Kansas City High School, received three bachelor degrees in vocal music, piano and choral education from University Missouri Kansas City and his Masters Degree in music composition from Pittsburg State University.

He moved from Kansas City to Fort Scott in 1991. He married Anna Marie Feagins on May 29, 1999 in Fort Scott. Gary was a member of the Community Christian Church. He also was music director and pianist for the First Christian Church, immediate past director of the Fort Scott Community Choir, pianist for the Fort Scott Melodrama Theatre, and provided the music for Fort Scott Chamber Homes for the Holiday Tour. He played various Sunday services at the Community Christian Church and the Community of Christ Church as well as many weddings and funerals. Gary also gave private voice and piano lessons. He was well known as the happy and knowledgeable driver of Dolly the Trolley. He was the current professor of choral music at Allen Community College. He taught choral music at Fort Scott Community College for nine years and music at the Jayhawk Linn schools for three years prior to Allen Community College.

Survivors include his wife, Ann of the home; his mother, Bernice Tebbets, Kansas City, Missouri; and one son, Gary Tebbets Jr., Sedalia, Missouri. Also surviving is a brother, Paul Tebbets, sister Tricia Weston and husband Paul, all of Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Community Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Kevin Moyers, assisted by Rev. Reed Hartford, Elder Joe Rei and Elder Robert Clark. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. Friday in the Cheney Witt Chapel.
