Barry Richard Elliott, age 75, resident of 124 S. Holbrook, Fort Scott, died early Monday, January 07, 2008, at the Mercy Health Center Emergency Room. He was born September 26, 1932, in Centerville, Iowa the son of Harry Elliott and Carmella Dezorzi Elliott. Barry was a graduate of Centerville High School and received his B.S. degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He received his Masters and E.D.S. degrees from Pittsburg State University. Barry married Patti Jo Brewster on June 27, 1953 in Huntsville, Arkansas. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Barry was principal at the Fulton Grade School prior to moving to Fort Scott. He retired from the U-234 school system at the Industrial Arts instructor. Barry was a member of the Church of Christ, 15th and Crawford. He also was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society and was a past president of the Lions Club. His hobbies included woodworking and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Patti Jo, of the home; three sons, Richard Elliott Jr. and wife Cindy, Haysville, Kansas, David Elliott and wife Kim, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and James Elliott and wife Lesley, Coffeyville, Kansas. Also surviving are eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Rev. Steve Stentzel will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, in the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m.. in the Duffield Cemetery at Jay, Oklahoma. Memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
