George Devon Holy, age 78, resident of 1312 S. National Avenue, Fort Scott, Kansas, died early Saturday, October 27, 2007, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. He was born December 14, 1928, in Fort Scott the son of George Albert Holy and Marie Gunnels Holy. George was a 1947 graduate of Fort Scott High School and graduated from Fort Scott Community College. He married Jean Parker on February 23, 1951, in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1951 to 1953 and discharged from the Army Reserves in 1957. George worked in his earlier years at the family Holy Furniture Store. He worked for 27 years as a salesman for Monarch Life Insurance Company retiring in 1985. He was a monument salesman for Bruce Marble and Granite from 1987 to 1996. During that time he also drove a school bus for U-234 from 1979 to 1996, a job he most dearly loved. George also worked on his own cattle farm. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served two terms as Deacon and also ruling Elder. He was also a member of Post No. 1165 V.F.W.; Rising Sun Lodge No. 8 A.F.& A.M.; Fort Scott Scottish Rite; Mirza Shrine; Ducks Unlimited and National Woodcarvers. He was a past member and treasurer of the Lions Club. He loved hunting, fishing, wood carving, and especially feeding birds and squirrels at his home and feeding the geese every day at Gunn Park.
