Twombly

Archie O. Twombly, 86, of Pittsburg, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2007 at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Twombly was born on September 22, 1921 at Arcadia, KS, to Archie B. and Emma (Foulk) Twombly. Archie spent most of his childhood living in Arcadia, briefly living in Independence, MO, before returning to Arcadia, where he graduated from high school. He spent the rest of his life living in Pittsburg.

He married Betty Lou Thomas on October 30, 1946. Archie and Betty enjoyed 60 years of marriage, raising their three sons, attending family reunions, and traveling to Branson.

Archie was a lifelong electrician, working for many area businesses including: Atkinson Armature Works, DuPont, Rocketdyne, Pacific Mercury, Fairchild's/White Industries, Dickey Clay and retiring from KAAP in 1986.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Pittsburg. Archie held a sixty-two year membership of the Blue Lodge of Arcadia, Scottish Rite of Fort Scott, Mirza Temple of Pittsburg. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, holding numerous troop and district positions, he received the "Golden Sun Award" for over twenty years of Scouting efforts. Archie was a devoted family man, who loved traveling and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed researching family ancestry and attending family reunions. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and those who know him well.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Keith Twombly of Pittsburg and Glenn Twombly of Joplin; a sister, Fannie May Turner of Independence, MO, one daughter-in-law, Peggy Twombly of Wichita, KS; and three grandchildren, David Twombly, of Joplin, Devin Twombly of Wichita, and Kari Twombly of Joplin.

Archie was preceded in death by a son, Dennis, a sister, Ruth Evans, and a daughter-in-law, Patty (David) Twombly.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday (Oct. 26) at the Brenner Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday. Following the service, Mr. Twombly will be cremated. The family suggests memorials to the Mirza Shrine Transportation Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS.
