Fort Scott JV finishes in third place at Independence tourney
INDEPENDENCE -- Fort Scott High's junior varsity volleyball team took third place in a tournament here Saturday. The Tigers had a 3-2 record on the day.
In the first match of pool play, Parsons defeated Fort Scott, 25-18, 22-25, 15-3. Megan McDermed served five aces as all 12 of her serves were successful.
Next, the Tigers beat Fredonia, 31-29, 19-25, 15-12. Britney Holt was 10 for 10 in service. Kori Allen was 16 of 17 with four aces. Jenna Campbell led with five kills.
Fort Scott then swept Independence, 25-18, 25-17. Campbell served nine aces and McDermed served four aces and had four kills.
In the semifinals after pool play, Iola defeated the Tigers, 25-19, 25-18. Allen and Kelli Davis had four kills each. Breianna Jones had four blocks.
The Tigers had a rematch with Parsons in the third-place match. This time they won, 25-18, 13-25, 15-12. Allen had four kills and Courtney Carpenter was credited with 13 digs.
Fort Scott's JV record is now 6-11. They will be at home tonight along with the varsity to face Labette County and Independence. Play begins at 5 p.m. at the FSHS gymnasium.
