Dorothy Ellen Wilson
Dorothy Ellen Wilson, 87, former resident of Fort Scott, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at the Serverin Nursing Home in Benton, Ill., with her daughter and granddaughter at her side.
She was born May 24, 1920 in Fort Scott, the daughter of Samuel L. Monroe and Nellie A. Dunlap Monroe. Dorothy was a 1938 graduate of Fort Scott High School. She married Wray Wilson on April 16, 1938, at Mapleton, Kan. He passed away on Sept. 20, 1996.
She was a former food manager at the Marmaton Rural School. She later worked in the Wal-Mart Pharmacy.
She attended the Bethel Community Church. Her hobbies included needlepoint and sewing.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathie Cowan and husband Don, Benton, Ill.; two sons, Dr. Dennis Wilson and wife JoAnna, Parsons, Kan., and Roger Wilson and wife Connie, Arma, Kan. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Cheri Henderson and Kerri Murphy, both of Frontenac, Kan., Kimberly LaPlant, Rogers, Ark., Dr. Luke Wilson, Leawood, Kan., Derek Wilson, Parsons, Gina McCabe, Roeland Park and Angela Dawson, Benton, Ill., and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, one brother, Kenneth Monroe; and two sisters, Maxine Floyd and Mary Tweedy.
The Rev. Jared Witt will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday in the Cheney Witt Chapel.
