Charles Oliver Mabery, 85, resident of 1818 Tiernan Road, Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, at Fort Scott Medicalodge. He was born Sept. 29, 1921, in Copeland, Kan., the son of Charles D. Mabery and Amanda Gertrude Palmer Mabery. Charles graduated from the Fort Scott School system. He entered the United States Navy for two terms discharged in July of 1948 at Engineman Chief. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Defense Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Charles married Martisha Marlett on Sept. 15, 1947, in Benton County, Ark. Following his discharge from the Navy, the couple moved to Oregon. He was retired as a heavy equipment operator in construction while in Oregon. The couple returned to Fort Scott in 1997. Charles was a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 701 of Portland, Ore.
