Hazel Fay Scherzer, 69, formerly of North Kansas City, and more recently of Uniontown, Kansas, died Thursday morning, June 7, 2007, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. She was born June 19, 1937 in Nevada, Missouri, the daughter of Richard and Lily (Irwin) Shrewsbury. She married Stanley E. Scherzer December 18, 1974 in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death in July, 1997.

Hazel was a self-employed bookkeeper and owned ACE Bookkeeping for 35 years. She lived in Nevada, Missouri, Los Angeles, California, and Kansas City, Missouri, before retiring and moving back to Bourbon County to be closer to family.

She is survived by a son; Kevin Michael Hostetter and his wife, Lori, of Los Angeles, California, two daughters; Barbara Brown and her husband Rocky of Fort Scott, and Christine Snopak of Springfield, Missouri, three grandchildren; Michael Hostetter, Brandi Hostetter, and Kaitlyn Brown, a niece; Debra Belcher, a nephew; Steven Belcher and his wife Brooke, and two great-nephews; Steven Belcher, and Darren Belcher. In addition to her husband Stanley, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother; Howard Shrewsbury, and a sister; Martha Morris.

Rev. Steve MacArthur will conduct graveside services for Hazel at 2:30 p.m. June 12, 2007, at the Fort Scott National Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m., and leave for the cemetery at 2:15 p.m. A visitation is scheduled for Monday evening, June 11, 2007, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
