Ethel Marie Staton, age 88, resident of Pleasanton, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott. She was born July 8, 1918, in Arcadia, the daughter of Logan Key and Ruth Sauvain Key. Marie graduated from Hume High School. She married Raufeau Leroy "Pete" Staton on July 20, 1937 in Butler, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1997. She was a member of the Bykota Baptist Church. Her favorite time was spent fishing.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Avery and husband Dale, Pleasanton; one brother, Charles Ervin Kay, Belton, Missouri; and a sister, Lorna Scrogham, Edwardsville. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Janet Gabbert, Prescott, Dorothy Avery, Pleasanton; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Chester Key and Fred "Pint" Key.

The Rev. John Comstock will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Pleasanton Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in the Pleasanton Cemetery under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Pleasanton Nazarene Church.
