Show your support for Tri-Valley Developmental Services' efforts to raise funds for housing for the developmentally disabled.

Tickets are still available for the event, which is set for Feb. 5 at the Liberty Theatre.

The goal is to raise $20,000.

The Fort Scott High School Drama Department will also be having a fundraiser -- at 7 p.m. Thursday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is $3.

Congratulations also to the Fort Scott Scholars' Bowl team, which hosted its home tournament Monday night. Twenty-four teams competed in three pools of round-robin style.

The top eight teams competed in single-elimination style. Winners were first place, Fort Scott; second place, Yates Center; and third place Paola.

"Our varsity team has placed in four of six tournaments this year. The junior varsity has placed in two of its four tournaments gaining first place at Paola," team adviser Bert Lewis said in an email.

Monday's team consisted of Mark Garner, Zadok Self, Michelle Buntain, Krista Hightower and Mady McColm.

The JV will finish its season on Wednesday, and the varsity will be competing in regionals on Thursday, Lewis wrote.

I saw a green and orange (tailed) rubber lizard while walking Tuesday morning. It was located on U.S. 54 just outside of Fort Scott.

It seemed fitting because it was raining heavily.

I don't know how it got there, but I took a photo of it -- with my phone, which I'm quite proud of. (Taking the photo with the phone, that is).

I wish all the organizations with functions coming up luck with their fundraising and send all the kids participating in tournaments good wishes as well.
