Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Redfield Ruritan Club met Nov. 8 with 10 members and one visitor present. Clayton Tatro, president of Fort Scott Community College, was present and thanked the club for the recent donation to the FSCC Scholarship Fund. He made a few remarks regarding programs at the college and said there are 1,900 students on all the FSCC campuses with 1,100 of those being in Fort Scott. He also said 85 percent of the students are from Kansas.

The secretary's and treasurer's reports were read and approved. Members purchased tickets for a fundraiser to help pay for the Ruritan district expenses. The club will provide a door prize and an auction prize for the district convention on Nov. 17. Ten members from the Redfield club will be attending the convention.

The Ruritan Club and the city of Redfield will sponsor a free Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving day at the Redfield community center for anyone in Redfield who does not have any place to go to eat on that day. Turkey, dressing and all the trimmings will be served.

Plans were also made for the community Christmas dinner to be Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Redfield community building.

The bill for the property insurance on the concession stand was presented and the club voted to pay for this coverage.

A new student member, A.J. Johnson, was welcomed into the club. The meeting adjourned with the flag salute.
