'Hounds win pair, prepare for battle of ranked teams

Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team won a pair of matches in Oklahoma over the weekend, improving to 11-1 on the season. The 'Hounds defeated Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at Miami in five sets, 25-20, 26-24, 16-25, 18-25, 15-8. They went to Shawnee, Okla., on Saturday and beat the St. Gregory's University junior varsity in a best-of-three match, 25-20, 25-20.

The Greyhounds, ranked No. 16 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll, prepare for a battle of ranked squads as they play at No. 14 Kansas City Kansas Wednesday night. Match time at the KCK Fieldhouse is set for 6:30 p.m.

Against NEO (0-3), in a match delayed several times due to power outages, Ali Cure was credited with 12 kills while Haylee Toothman had 10 and Ashley Bell and Jacy Ermel each had nine. Taylyn Schwartz handed out 46 assists. Kate Smith recorded 29 digs while Toothman had 18 and Cure and Shelby Boxberger had 15 each.

"The match versus NEO was challenging for us," FSCC head coach Lindsay Hill told fsgreyhounds.com. "We struggled in serve receive, which affected the rest of our game. However, in set five, we played very well. I was proud of how much we fought to win that match."

Against St. Gregory's, Boxberger led with 8 kills while Cure and Bell each had 5. Schwartz had 20 assists while Smith picked up 15 digs.
