BUFFALO -- Uniontown settled for a split in Three Rivers League play here Thursday night, beating host Altoona-Midway while falling to Oswego.

The Eagles (1-1 TRL, 6-3 overall) beat Altoona-Midway, 25-11, 25-14. Oswego defeated Uniontown, 25-23, 9-25, 25-21.

Against Midway, Abby Dixon was 6 of 6 in attack picking up four kills. Brit Stokes handed out 11 assists.

"This was our first night out starting with league play," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "We played pretty well against Altoona, doing the things we work daily on in practice: pass, set, attack. We did not have a lot of unforced errors in that match."

Against Oswego, Stokes dished 22 assists. Hayden Rathbun led with 9 kills while Emily Shinn and Hannah Travis head assisted on 4 blocks.

"I knew the Oswego match would be a tough one," Hall said. "We went a three-set match with them in the preseason tourney (at Northeast, Aug. 24) and they are a fundamentally-sound team. We just didn't play our brand of ball consistently. We had way too many unforced errors, missing serves in back-to-back rotations at crucial times, not communicating constantly, not scoring points in rotations that we count on. The girls fought back in both set one and three, and totally dominated set two. We just fell short to get the win."

Uniontown's junior varsity swept Altoona-Midway, 25-6, 25-5. Jana Wilkinson served 21 points for the Eagles.

The Eagle JV also played a tournament at Marmaton Valley Saturday, finishing second to the host school.

In the first match of pool play, Humboldt took a 15-11, 15-13 win. Ambar Abrego had 2 kills for the Eagles.

Uniontown beat Pleasanton, 15-11, 15-9, in the second match as Abrego had 6 kills.

The Eagles beat West Franklin in three, 15-6, 13-15, 15-8. Abrego had 2 kills.

Uniontown also beat Southeast, 15-11, 15-13, as Tyeesh Perry had 3 kills. The Eagles advanced to the championship as Humboldt was just 2-2 in pool play and Uniontown won the tie-breaker with West Franklin. Marmaton Valley was 4-0 in the other pool.

Marmaton Valley swept Uniontown in the final, 15-12, 15-11. Peery and Abrego had 3 kills each.

The Eagle JV will play in a quadrangular at Southeast Tuesday and at Oswego Thursday with Columbus rounding out the field for a triangular there.
