Mrs. Sibby A. Middleton, 94 of Forsyth, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, in the Forsyth Nursing and Rehab. A graveside service was held Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. in the Lockwood City Cemetery, Lockwood, Mo. The family received friends from noon until service time at the cemetery. Pastor Larry Lawman officiated.

Sibby Alice Middleton was born Monday, Jan. 28, 1918, in South Greenfield, Mo., to Perry Clay and Carrie Edna (Bird) Renfro. She attended school in Lockwood and graduated from the Lockwood High School in 1936. She worked three jobs in the area: as a housekeeper, in a café and at a local florist until she met and married Harold Middleton in 1939.

In 1941 she and Harold moved to Fort Scott, Kan. She was a homemaker and became very involved with the community. She was PTA president and active in other organizations. In 1954, she began working as a floral arranger in the Fort Scott Greenhouse.

She and Harold traveled extensively until Harold's death in 1971. She continued to travel and work until her retirement in 1971. Sixteen years later, she moved to Forsyth to be close to her daughter.

Sibby was energetic, outgoing and very well organized. This helped her to become a strong leader in her community. She was a life member of the Olive Chapter of the Eastern Star in Fort Scott, Kan. Sibby enjoyed cooking, especially "chicken and noodles," quilting, crocheting, working puzzles, reading and playing cards. She and the ladies in her mobile home park religiously played cards every Monday. She was a member of the Forsyth United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Larry Middleton of Edgewater, Fla.: daughter, Jean Liscum of Kirbyville, Mo., and a sister, Buena Karleskint of Fort Scott, Kan., and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold; a son, David Middleton; three brothers, Raymond, Leon and Perry and two sisters, Mary Renfro and Berthena Meyers.
