NOMA JEAN MICHAELS

Noma Jean Michaels, age 88, a former resident of Fort Scott and more recently of Fort Worth, Texas, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at her home in Fort Worth. She was born May 7, 1924, in Liberal, Mo., the daughter of Charles Edward Bass and Amanda Elsie Brown Bass. She married Glenn O. Michaels on April 23, 1951, in Eureka Springs, Ark. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2004. Jean spent her younger years in Fort Scott prior to moving to Kansas City, Mo., in 1963. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Wichita to be near her daughter. The family later moved to Fort Worth in 2010. Jean and Glenn traveled extensively, as Glenn had worked and retired from TWA.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice Dickinson, and husband, John, of Fort Worth, Texas, her son, James Edward Michaels, Daytona Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter, Stephanie Hatfield Craine, and husband, Jim, and a great-grandson, Colton Philip Craine, all of Fort Worth. Also surviving are a former son-in-law, Gary Hatfield of Tyler, Texas, and a niece, Debbie Michaels Redding, Kansas City, Mo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Ebb, Edgar, Edward "Shorty" and Fred Bass and three sisters, Hazel Bass, Pearl Campblin and Helen Tipton.

Private burial will take place Thursday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.
