Edward Cale Rinehart, 77, of Fort Scott, passed away Wednesday evening Aug. 29, 2012, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

He was born Nov. 5, 1934, in Ewart, Iowa the son of Carl and Leona May (McMeekin) Rinehart. He married Carlene Marie Kruger and she survives of the home.

Edward served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant for 25 years and in that time, served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retiring from the Marines, he worked for a lumber company in Jacksonville as a supervisor for another 20 years, retiring at the age of 74. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Edward was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed so much.

In addition to his wife Carlene, he is survived by his children: Jeanann Sumner of Manor, Texas, Greg Rinehart of Fort Scott, Kan., Eddie Rinehart of Nashville, Tenn., and Carrie Baker of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Richard Rinehart of Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, and Ronald Rinehart of Des Moines, Iowa, and a sister, Carla Kruger of Montgomery, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 10 bonus grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a brother.

VFW Chaplain James R. Stradley will conduct graveside services at 9 a.m. Monday morning, Sept. 3, 2012, at the Fort Scott National Cemetery with military honors conducted at the cemetery by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Detail. Family and friends will meet at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home at 8 a.m. and leave for the cemetery at 8:45 a.m. A memorial fund has been established for Edward Rinehart.
