LAWRENCE -- Fort Scott High School's Katren Rienbolt, appearing in just the third varsity race of her first season running cross country, finished tied for third over four kilometers in the Blue Varsity race at the University of Kansas Invitational at Rim Rock Farm here Saturday.

There were nearly 200 runners in this race alone. Twelve races were held -- six each for boys and girls -- for schools of varying sizes and athletes of different levels as junior varsity and C Team races were also held.

The Tiger sophomore tied with senior Caley Shaffshall of Kansas City Christ Prepatory Academy, who happens to be a teammate of Rienbolt's on a summer league basketball team. They were both clocked at 15 minutes, 50.8 seconds.

Sophomore Sammy Laurenzo of Liberty (Mo.) North was the winner in 15:05.5 with freshman teammate Stephanie Boan clocking in at 15:37.3. Seven of the top eight finishers were either freshmen or sophomores with Shaftshall as the lone exception.

Maddison Dispensa of Chanute finished 22nd in 16:39.9. She was the only other Southeast Kansas League runner in the top 100.
