Vera Jewell Barbour, 98, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Christian Health Care in Nevada.

She was born July 30, 1912, in Roscoe, Mo., to Edward Luther and Zella Simmons Luther.

She married Homer Chester Barbour on Oct. 17, 1934, in Clinton, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1999.

Vera grew up in St. Clair County and attended the Stony Point country school.

She and her husband owned the grocery store in Richards, Mo., for several years before returning to farm in the rural Nevada area.

Vera was a member of the Richards Christian Church and a lifelong member of Eastern Star in Schell City, Mo.

She is survived by one daughter, Janie Loyd and her husband David of Nevada, Mo.; two granddaughters, Sherry Hudson and her husband Doug of Neosho, Mo.; and Kristie Townsend and her husband Brad of Clinton, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Shaun McConnaughey, Ryan McConnaughey and Cody McConnaughey all of Neosho, Mo.; and Taylor Townsend of Clinton, Mo.; one great-great-grandson Noah McConnaughey.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo., with Brother Melvin Mabra officiating.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Taberville, Mo.
