Jean S. Shields, 75, of Mapleton, Kan., passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

She was born Jan 18, 1935 and adopted five days later by Mr. and Mrs. George C. Stine of Kansas City, Kan.

She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1952 and Emporia State University in 1956. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority.

Jean met and married the love of her life, Roy A. Shields, in 1962. They had two daughters, Meredith and Jennifer.

Jean was employed by AT&T for 27 1/2 years before retiring to Mapleton in 1996.

Jean was a member of the Mapleton United Methodist Church, Mapleton City Clerk and a lifetime member of the Gladiola chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was also a lifelong Chiefs fan, having season tickets for 44 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She leaves behind her daughters, Meredith A. Shields of Prairie Village, Kan., and Jennifer L. Shields of Pleasanton, Kan., along with her three grandsons Christopher, Matthew and Benjamin, of Pleasanton, Kan.

In addition she leaves her sister-in-laws, Esther Shields of LaCygne, Kan., and Eunice Marks Bowen of Fresno, Calif.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at the Mapleton United Methodist Church, Mapleton, Kan.

Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kan.

Interment will be in the Jingo Cemetery, LaCygne, Kan.

The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mapleton United Methodist Church, Hospice Care of Kansas or the Mapleton Community Arena fund.
