Viola Ruth Edgar, age 91, former resident of Fort Scott, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Lake Point Nursing Home in Rose Hill, Kan.

She was born Nov. 7, 1918, in Carrington, N.D.; the daughter of John Nicolson and Elenor Radtke Nicolson.

She was the oldest of 13 children.

Ruth married Clarence Alexander Edgar on July 15, 1942 in Long Beach, Calif. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1977. Clarence was wounded in action in WWII.

Ruth was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Wichita, Kan.

She was retired as a nurse. She worked in the OB department of Mercy Hospital. She also was a wedding and birthday cake decorator for years. She moved from Fort Scott to Wichita in 1977.

Survivors include two sons, John "Boots" Edgar and Vincent Edgar, both of Wichita; one daughter Mary Louise Harkins and husband Bob, Goodland, Kan.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Orville Nicolson, Bull Head City, Ariz.; and Jerry Nicolson, Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Hazel Peterson, Grand Junction, Colo.; and sister-in-law Lyla Nicolson, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Allen Edgar who died July 4th, 2004; one infant sister; five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday in the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Burial will follow in U. S. National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
