GRACE WOODWARD YOUNG

Grace Woodward Young, 91, longtime Winnetka, Ill., resident, died peacefully after a brief illness with her children at her side.

Born in Lost Springs, Wyoming, her parents were homesteading at the time.

In 1923 her father rode a horse across the Wyoming plain and was never heard of again.

She grew up in rural Vernon County, Mo.; graduated from Fort Scott Kansas High School in 1936 and went to Wichita to live with her mother and attend Wichita University.

During WWII Grace worked for the Navy Department in Washington, DC. There she met Ensign Fred J. Young; they were married on May 31, 1947 and had two children; Fred J. (Julie Youmans) Young III of Columbia, Mo., and Betty Ann (Michael Smiley) Young of Joshua Tree, Calif.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, children, grandchildren, Evan Young of Lancaster, Pa., and Lydia Young of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; a beloved niece Linda Kay Weiner of Raleigh, N.C., other nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends.

She was very active in the Winnetka Congregational Church and especially enjoyed working at the annual rummage sale.

Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, June 14 at Winnetka Congregational Church, 725 Pine St., Winnetka, Ill., 60093.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harkness Outreach Center (Rummage) P.O. Box 14, Winnetka, Ill., 60093.

Cremains will be interred in the Young family plot in historic Bethesda Cemetery in Morristown, Tenn.
