GLEN WAYNE NIEMEIR

Glen Wayne Niemeir, age 88, resident of Fort Scott, died early Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at the Mercy Health Center.

He was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Devon, Kan., the son of Charles F. Niemeir and Pearl Calvin Niemeir.

He first married Ruby McCracken on Jan. 17, 1946. She preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1979.

He later married Helen Dold on June 1, 1980.

Glen owned and operated his own farm and dairy for many years.

In addition to farming, he also drove a school bus for the U-234 School District.

He was an Army veteran and served during World War II.

He was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church where he served as church treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent.

He was a member of the Fulton Masonic Lodge No. 210, the Violet Chapter, No. 200 Order of Eastern Star, a life member of the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a past member of the WBCCI Airstream Caravan Club and the Old Forters Camping Club.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home; two sons, Gilbert Niemeir and wife, Linda, Camden, Ark., and Douglas and wife, Diana, Fort Scott; two daughters, Glenda Lalman and husband, Bill and Carol Ruble and husband, Danny, both of Fort Scott; a step-son, Gaylord Dold, Wichita, Kan.

Also surviving are four sisters, Evelyn Marr, Fort Worth, Texas; Marie Haas, Bessemer, Ala.; Lois Hixon, Denver, Colo.; and Juanita Harber, Milton, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Calvin, Marion and George Niemeir and two sisters, Ruth Niemeir and Madelyn Mackey.

Pastor Janet Myers will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the V. F. W.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
