MALCOLM DEAN KENT

Malcolm Dean Kent, age 54, resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, died early Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at the Mercy Health Center Emergency Room.

He was born May 3, 1955, in Morrilton, Ark., the son of Junie Baker Kent and Elizabeth Fuller Kent.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a self employed carpenter for many years. Later he worked as a truck driver for Peerless and Extrusions in Fort Scott.

Malcolm married Lavon Judd on Feb. 14, 1993.

He enjoyed woodworking and going camping, as long as he could make a bonfire.

He greatly relished the time spent with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Lavon of the home; two sons, Timothy Harrison and wife Tonya, Redfield, Kan., and Martin Kent and wife of Morrilton, Ark.; two daughters, Jodi Silvers and husband Gary, Girard, Kan., and Amy Turner and husband of Hattieville, Ark.

Also surviving are his mother, Elizabeth Kent; three brothers, Michael Kent and wife Emma, Mapleton, Kan., John Kent and wife of Little Rock, Ark., and Kenny Kent and wife of Melbourne, Ark.; one sister, Judith and her husband of Langley, Va., and twelve grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Pastor Jeff Feagins will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery.

Military honors will be conducted by Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Malcolm Kent Memorial Fund.
