Epps

Reports surfaced over the weekend -- confirmed on Sunday by KSNF-TV -- that Fort Scott head football coach Don Epps resigned his position Friday.

Epps will remain the Tigers' head boys' track coach and as a teacher at the high school.

Epps moved up from an assistant's position before the 2006 season to replace long-time head coach Bob Campbell, who resigned to take a position at BSD Financial. Epps' first Tiger team finished with a 7-3 record, won a share of the Southeast Kansas League championship with Columbus and advanced to the playoffs.

Epps' 2007 team finished tied for second in the SEK but advanced to the Regional round of the playoffs and finished 9-2.

Last season, the Tigers slipped to 3-6 and finished seventh in the SEK. This past season, they were 1-8 and finished eighth. Their only victory was against Parsons, which was winless this season.

Epps was the 29th documented head coach in 115 seasons of Tiger football (names of coaches were not listed for many seasons in the 1890s and early 1900s).

In four seasons, Epps compiled a record of 20-19 (15-13 in league games), making him one of just 10 Fort Scott head coaches who won 20 games.
