JOHN HENRY CARSON

John Henry Carson, age 88, of 517 Burke Street, Fort Scott, Kansas, more recently of Fort Scott Manor, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009, at the Manor.

He was born October 3, 1920 in Fort Scott, the son of Lowell Hilton Carson and Gertrude Ellen Fletcher Carson.

John married Betty Jean Monroe on September 4, 1940, in Nevada, Missouri.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during WWII.

He was a self employed carpenter and painter.

He was a member of the Olson Frary Burkhart Post #1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His passion was hunting, fishing and crafts.

Survivors include his wife Betty of the home, one son, Lowell H. Carson, Fort Scott; three daughters, Mary Ellen Wratchford and Connie Jean Alley, both of Fort Scott, and Phyllis Arlene Shankel, Overland Park, Kansas.

Also surviving is a brother, Jim Dale Carson, Wichita, Kansas; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judith Ann Buford; two brothers, Kenneth Carson and Paul Carson; three sisters, Leta Query, Juanita Phillips, and Maurine White; and a infant granddaughter, Becky Sue Wratchford.

William James Schafer, Mercy Pastoral Services, will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the U.S. National Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Post No. 1165 V.F.W.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
