VELMA V. REAVIS

Velma V. Reavis, age 88, a former resident of Fort Scott and more recently of Girard, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the Heritage Nursing Home, Girard, Kansas.

She was born April 25, 1921, in Bates County, Missouri, the daughter of Charles E. Vermillion and Lilly May Bolling Vermillion.

She married Randall Reavis on July 11, 1945 in Houston, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1985.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Christian Women Fellowship, Toast Masters Club, and the Kansas Writers Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Linda Reavis, Wahiawa, Hawaii; five grandchildren, Randy Reavis, Dorothy Kidd, Basil Reavis Jr., Heather Rein, Jackie McIntosh and Ashley Reavis; 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren..

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Edward Reavis and Basil Reavis, Sr.; three brothers and three sisters.

Rev. Reed Hartford will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the First Christian Church.

Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the U. S. National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
