BERTHA MARIE BELL

Bertha Marie Bell, 72 of Fort Scott, Kan., formerly of Frontenac, Kan., died at 5:20 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, Kan.

Bertha was born December 10, 1935, in Mulberry, Kan., to Ray Forest and Hazel G. (Swartz) Cox. She attended area schools in Mulberry, Kan.

Bertha married Clarence Myers, Jr. in Fort Scott. They later divorced. She later married Erland Bell in Pittsburg, Kan. They later divorced.

Bertha was a CNA for 10 years, for several area families in their own homes.

Survivors include her daughters Hazel M. Gregg and her husband Richard of Yelm, Wash., Karen Jerkins of Arcadia, Kan., and Karen McFarland of Pittsburg, Kan., son Harvey Joe Myers of Frontenac, Kan., brother Johnnie Cox of Paris, Tenn., Terry Cox of Pittsburg and Jerry Cox of Pittsburg, Kan.; along with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Laura Bell, sons Jackie and Wesley Myers, loving companion Alvin F. White, seven sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2008, at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, Kan. Burial will follow in Tweedy Cemetery in Garland, Kan.
