GLORIA MADELINE THOMAS HAZELBAKER

Gloria Madeline Thomas Hazelbaker, 90, of Pleasanton, Kan., died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas.

She was born March 11, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Ernest E. and Mary Florence Esler Thomas. She moved with her parents to Pleasanton at three years of age and attended Pleasanton Schools and graduated in 1935. Gloria married Blaine Hazelbaker on December 24, 1935, and to this union two sons were born, Norman Leon and Gerald Blaine. Gloria was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was active for many years with the Pleasanton Saddle Club. She was a homemaker and in 1963 she went to work at Dan Smith Drugs and retired after more than 25 years. She enjoyed yard work and flower beds. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Blaine in 1965 and one son Gerald in 1983.

Survivors include her son, Norman and wife, Alice of Redfield, Kansas; two grandsons, Mike Hazelbaker and wife, Susan and Doug Hazelbaker and wife, Jana; three granddaughters, Carol Camac and husband, Joe, Brenda Ratty and husband, Randy and Cathy Kump; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Hazelbaker, Mike Vrban and two step granddaughters, Julie and Jeanie.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 15, at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Friday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Interment will be in Pleasanton Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coffelschneider.com.
