Northwesters visit with families, travel on vacation

Lindsey Lewis had breakfast with her grandmother, Marjorie Lewis, before returning to St. Louis, Mo., where she attends George Washington University.

Monday, Sept. 3, Dale and Betty Hixon, Fred and Eloise Wright traveled to Mapleton, where they joined seven others from their Motorcycle Chapter M, for breakfast. The ride back to town was very nice, and everyone enjoyed the nice weather.

Tiffany Lewis and Ron Lewis had lunch with Marjorie Lewis, and enjoyed playing cards. Tiffany who lives in Kansas City is in her fifth year of college to become a doctor.

Linda and James Center accompanied her mother. June Hereford, to Joplin, Mo., where June had surgery on her shoulder. Brian Rhoades. Youth Pastor of Grace Baptist Tabernacle, traveled down for her surgery, visited with Linda and James while her mother was in surgery.

Thursday, Sept. 6, Fred and Eloise Wright, Dale and Betty Hixon, met Gary Woods and enjoyed eating at Jayhawk Inn. On their ride back to town they saw 15 deer.

Beverly Peel spent Labor Day with her mother, Marjorie Lewis. They enjoyed preparing a birthday dinner for family members, Ruth Lewis, Ron Lewis. Larry Peel and Kitty Lewis. Everyone enjoyed chicken, potato casserole, buttered corn, lettuce salad, cucumbers, and hot bread. For dessert they had apple pie with ice cream and chocolate cream pie. They all sang the birthday song, and the honorees were given their cards, and all enjoyed visiting.

June Hereford and her daughter Linda enjoyed a trip to Joplin, Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Hannah Harris, Hepler, is attending Fort Scott Community College this semester. She is staying at the home of her grandparents. Larry and Beverly Peel. They all enjoyed visiting with Marjorie Lewis, Tuesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cross, Mapleton visited with Marjorie Lewis Thursday morning, Sept. 6.

Mr. And Mrs. Ron Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Peel. Mr. And Mrs. Bill Lewis, Kitty Lewis. Glenda Hamilton her brother David Hamilton and his daughter, Kaitlin all of Joplin, Mo. visited with Marjorie Lewis.

Mr. And Mrs. Buddy Browning visited Marjorie Lewis Monday morning, Sept. 10.

Becky Canady, Towanda, and her friend. Mark Taylor. Louisiana, visited with her parents, Frank and Gypsy Hereford, and celebrated Gypsy's birthday.

Maureen Lewis visited with her grandmother, Marjorie Lewis, Tuesday, Sept. 4. before going to Lawrence where she will be going to college second semester.

Ron, Linda, Scott and James Center enjoyed vacationing and visiting with family and friends. Aug. 25, they traveled to Sioux Falls, S.D., where they visited Linda's cousin, Joan Andeberg. They enjoyed a breakfast buffet after attending church Sunday morning, Aug. 26. Joan took them on a tour of the city that afternoon where they enjoyed the Falls. Monday morning, as a special treat for Linda, who loves butterflies, they visited the Sertoma Butterfly House. As a treat to James, Scott and Ron, they spent a big part of the afternoon at Thunder Road, where James was introduced to 90 carts, and mini golf. Enroute to Grand Forks, N.D., they stopped at the Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown, S.D. They stayed with friends, Joe and Carolyn (Craven) Schalk. They enjoyed touring the Grand Forks and North Dakota State University, where Joe is employed in the aviation department. Carolyn and Linda spent the afternoon visiting and enjoyed shopping for their grandchildren. That evening they all celebrated Carolyn's birthday at the Texas Road House. They left Thursday morning, Aug. 30, for Rapid City, S.D. They took a short break, in Buffalo, S.D., where James enjoyed playing at a playground. They arrived in Rapid City that evening. After dinner they enjoyed a 180-foot slide at the pool in their motel. They visited Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Mountain, and Bedrock City. James and Scott saw Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and the area in a helicopter. Friday evening, they enjoyed dinner and a show at the Flying T Chuck Wagon.

Sunday morning, they had pancakes, all you could eat, at a local place, where you could also mine for gold, get an engraved brick, make your own penny souvenir and a buy just about anything at a flea market.

They attended Calvary Baptist Church and stopped at Wall Drug Store in Wall, S.D. They had lunch just outside of the Badlands National Park. After driving through the Badlands National Park, they traveled to Mitchell, S.D., where they spent the night. Monday morning they walked through the Corn Palace. where they were getting ready for the Pedal Tractor Pull. They shopped in several souvenir shops before leaving for home. They arrived in Fort Scott Monday evening.

Dale and Betty Hixon joined others of the Old Fortier's Camping Club in Bennett Springs, Mo. There were six units, 32 people, and another couple came Saturday evening for the potluck and meeting.
