Norma Ruth Gall-Strickland

Norma Ruth Gall-Strickland, 77, died on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kan., after a lengthy illness. Norma was born on Aug. 1, 1930 in Garden City.

She was the second of five children born to Ernest H. and Ruth M. (Kincheloe) gall who were pioneers of Grant County. Her family homesteaded land and were early residents of Grant County.

Norma is survived by her two daughters, Leslie A. and husband Zackery E. Reynolds of Fort Scott, and Meredith L. and husband Scott T. Kendziorski of Castle Rock, Colo. Also surviving are her three grandchildren, Adam Z. Reynolds, Jarred T. Kendziorski and Alexandria L. Kendziorski. Other survivors include two sisters, Dorothy L. Fort of Ulysses, Kan., and Doraine C. Deweese of Corpus Christi, Texas; and two brothers, Duane C. Gall of Sherman, Texas and Ernest R. Gall of San Diego. Norma is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Kenneth D. Strickland.

Norma was a lifelong resident of Ulysses, Kan., and she retired from the Grant County Library after more than 30 years of service. Growing up, she attended all Ulysses schools. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ulysses. Norma loved books, traveling, Schnauzers, family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Pastor Dennis Livingston officiating. A private family graveside service will take place prior to the memorial service at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kan. There will be no calling hours.
