ALICE NELL OSTERFELT

Friday, February 9, 2007

Alice Nell Osterfelt was born October 12, 1930, in Fort Scott, to Clara and Ambrose Fitzpatrick. She is one of two children born into that family. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her sister, Sara Thompson of Florida.

Alice spent most of her life in Fort Scott and Wichita, and Fort Collins, Colo.  In 1949, Alice married John Leo Osterfelt. They raised seven children, Don Osterfelt (Sue), Gail Bonomo, Sue Hays (Steve), Mary LeCorchick (Charlie), Peter Osterfelt (Monique), Sarah Davis (Randy) and Henry J Osterfelt.

Besides raising seven children, Alice and her husband purchased the Hickory House North restaurant in 1972.

After success there the Hickory House South opened in 1979. Alice touched the lives of many in this role. Soon people lovingly wanted to change the name to "Alice's Restaurant."

Alice was mother to one and all whether they were a customer, employee, friend or family member. On many Sundays, Alice's angelic voice could be heard above the organ she played in church services.

Alice continued her public service throughout the years with her constant volunteer service through several different organizations that included serving Meals on Wheels, participating with the Fort Collins Lincoln Center, working in local schools, hospitals and theater.

She earned a music degree from the University of Northern Colorado in the mid-'90s. That experience led to her involvement in costume production for local theater groups, something she thoroughly enjoyed.

Alice's greatest pride came from her family and friends who will greatly miss her. Alice is survived by her seven children, 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 29 2007, at Blessed John XXIII University Center in Fort Collins, Colo. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Fort Collins Lincoln Center in care of Goes Funeral Care and Crematory.
