Robert Edgar Fowler, age 87, a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at the Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott. He was born March 10, 1919, in Walnut, Kansas, the son of Ollie Fowler and Lettie Knott Fowler. During World War II, Bob served in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart. He married Hazel Holtman on Dec. 31, 1939, in Fort Scott. He retired following 33 years with the Southwestern Bell Company as a cable splicer. Upon retirement, Bob and Hazel moved to Grand Lake for many years before returning to Fort Scott. he was a lifelong member of the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Especially cherished were his friends at the NuGrille, where Bob had lunch every day for many years. Bob enjoyed time at the lake, fishing, camping, gardening, and traveling. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
