Roger Lloyd Stevens, age 58, formerly of Fort Scott and more recently of Grandview, Mo., passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at his home. He was born Sept. 4, 1948 in Rapid City, S.D. the son of Harold George and Dorothy Mae Ann (Kirkpatrick) Stevens.

Roger graduated from Oak Park High School in 1967. He proudly served with the U.S. Army in Berlin and was honorably discharged in 1970. He went to work for the family business and MidAmerica Welding in Fort Scott until 1980 when he moved to the Kansas City area. He worked for Gradview Winn Nelson Plumbing as an estimator. Roger was known by many friends in the Kansas City area and was a member of the Kansas City Ski Club. His interests were in motorcycles and motocross racing.

He spent a lot of his time on his boat "Nauty Lady" at Lake of the Ozarks with his many friends who considered him "Mayor of the Dock." Roger's belief was "friends are family and family are friends."

Roger is survived by his father Harold, of Fort Scott, his two sisters and their spouses; Ray and Randy Reed of Shawnee, Kan., and Noah and Robin Cope, of Ohio, and nieces and nephews; R.J., Alison and Alex Reed, and Ella Cope. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy.

The Rev. Steve MacArthur will conduct funeral services for Roger at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the Fort Scott National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Roger's passion for life was surpassed only by his loyalty to friends. Thanks for all the good memories. They will never be forgotten.
