Fort Scott Director of Finance Rhonda Dunn highlighted some aspects of the city’s finances during Tuesday’s meeting of the Fort Scott City Commission.

Dunn explained the city’s debt and provided commissioners and attendees of the meeting with documents showing the city’s general obligation debt and sources of debt, as well as the time frame for each item of debt.

Other forms Dunn provided show information on the one-half percent citywide retailers’ sales tax voters approved in 2011 to fund a project to construct the Fort Scott Aquatic Center and make improvements to Buck Run Community Center.

Dunn told the Tribune Thursday she provided the financial report for the benefit of commissioners and citizens, and to address “misinformation” circulating in the community.

“There is some bad information out there,” she said. “It’s important to get the facts out there. There’s a thought (in the community) there’s a $2 million pot of money left over from the pool and it’s paid off … that the city is keeping the money. That’s not true.
