An ice storm Wednesday night struck Bourbon County and Southeast Kanasas, leaving a coating of three-fourths of an inch of ice. Classes at local districts, the Fort Scott Community College campus and several businesses closed and several activities and meetings were canceled Thursday. During an emergency meeting, Bourbon County Commissioners voted to keep the courthouse open, but employees had the option of using a vacation day. About 3,800 Westar Energy customers were without power after a line went down at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday. While some power was restored before noon, others were without until 3 p.m.
